I can only judge by your middle finger but I'd say you're lookin good.

[Too thick? Maybe. But he doesn't need to see her face to know that she's beautiful.]

flatterer.

[ It's fucking working, and it makes her feel like the worst kind of cliche. She'd tell him to stop but she actually really likes it. It's mortifying. Stevie's still laughing at her and will be smug about this for at least the next week, even if things between her and Tommy fizzle out.

It's worth it.

i found your hairtie in my bed, btw. you seem like the kind of guy who travels light so if you want it back that can be arranged.

Mmm not all of us make headliner bucks so I'm gonna to have to get that back. Maybe means I take you to dinner.
For the hairtie.

Maybe you shouldn't assume I don't know the foodtruck guys.

i can't tell if you're threatening to poison me with bad ceviche or threatening to poison my crew again to engineer a reason for us to hang out.

you don't have to go to all that effort, papi, we already established i like cold burgers.

Nonono I

[Shit, he really had forgotten about the ceviche.]

Okay first

[Uh huh, Tommy?]

Dida.

[Will that stop her from saying papi?I> Lord, woman.]

I knew about the ceviche because I know the food trucks and if I'm offering dinner than I'm gonna eat it and I don't need that.
Antojitos Mexicanos Betel. Best carnitas tacos I've had outside of Texas.

yes, toto?

[ She can just picture the flustered look on Tommy's face, and it makes her crow a little to herself, curled up in her seat with her phone held in both hands, so incredibly pleased with herself. It's incredibly obvious who she's texting. ]

oh yeah? you gonna broaden my horizons? show me some of that culture i was missing out on in the trailer park?

[Yeah that doesn't make anything better, but-]

Didn't know you lived in a trailer park.

well these days i live on this fucking bus more often than not.

[ On the bus, in hotel rooms... Technically Eddie has an apartment of her own, but she almost never goes there any more. When she "goes home," she usually goes to Wayne's, and bums around on his couch and pretends things are the same way they've always been.

She's not ashamed of her upbringing. Wayne did the best he could for her, and she's eternally grateful to him for it. She doesn't hesitate to talk about it if it comes up in conversation, or in interviews. If Tommy has a problem with that — she doesn't think he would, but it's not like she actually knows him all that well — she'd rather find that out at the start than discover it later on.
]

but yeah i grew up in a park. "forest hills" on the flattest piece of land you've ever laid eyes on. technically my hometown had a mexican restaurant but i can promise you it wasn't even close to authentic. definitely nothing close to what you could get, i'm sure.

[Tommy hasn't clicked on any links. He hasn't done a deep dive, or even a dive, just been party to random shit that the tour linked to.]

My mom died when we were young and my pops.
He wasn't much of a cook.

[Lots of take out.]

But local fare? That was good in Austin, yeah.

oh hey, me too.

[ That's crazy, that they're both in the Dead Moms club. Statistically it's not that crazy, probably, people's parents die all the time, but still. She tactfully doesn't ask if his dad's still around, or if he's like her dad and in the slammer for the rest of his life plus fifty or so years. ]

i'm jealous. "local fare" in indiana is... not good.

There's still time to introduce you.
And you too what? Dad not a cook?

[personal profile] polemical 2025-05-30 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
well you've talked it up so much, you better.

[ She can't tell if he genuinely didn't get what she was "me too"-ing to, or if he's just giving her a graceful out, but Eddie's never met a graceful out in her life and she's not going to start now. ]

me too my mom is dead. cancer.

[Oh, he was being geniune. Which means when that's the response Tommy gets back, he just... stares at the screen until it goes black on its own.]

Shit chica, I'm sorry.

[ Of course he apologizes to her. Eddie might feel uncomfortable with the sincerity, but she makes the conscious decision not to be. Tommy's a sweet guy. He probably genuinely means it. ]

thanks. i'm sorry about your mom, too.
